Good morning. It's 69 and cloudy. The high should be in the mid 70's with a chance of thunderstorms. Spent part of yesterday doing a little work on some freight cars I received in the mail. Nothing major, just loosen a screw here, adjust the height of a coupler there. Today I'll be getting grocery shopping done and do some general work around the trailer picking up things here and there. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/3/2009
Wind Chill: 69°F Humidity: 84% Dew Point: 64°F

Good morning from Sundown Louisiana. It's currently 68 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 70's and there is a chance of rain. Didn't get much done yesterday. I started work on rerouting some layout wiring that was displaced by the installation of the new heater last week and I had to repair a leaking water line outside the trailer yesterday. That's almost as much fun as teaching brain surgery via long distance telephone call with constant service disruptions. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/4/2009
Wind Chill: 66°F Humidity: 100% Dew Point: 66°F
So Far Today High: 68°F Low: 66°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 7mph SSW
Isolated light showers moving northeast at 15 mph can be expected over the inland region and over the near coastal waters west of Marsh Island. Trace amounts of rain will accompany these showers.
Today High: 75 Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog early in the morning. A slight chance of showers in the morning...then a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.
Tonight Low: 45 Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of showers in the evening...then a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms after midnight. Cooler. Lows in the mid 40s. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Good morning. It's 50 and there's a light fog out here by the lake. The high today will be 50 and there's a good chance of rain. Didn't do much yesterday. Watched some movies (only have a couple thousand) and checked the wiring of my control panel in an attempt to find a short that's preventing one of my turnouts from operating. Fortunately it's not a critical turnout. The next step will be to go under the layout and search for the short. I'll have to start at the turnout and work back toward the panel. The odds-on bet is that when the control panel was moved to make room for the new heater a couple of wires got pulled enough to expose and cross them. That remains to be seen. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/5/2009
Wind Chill: 47°F Humidity: 100% Dew Point: 50°F
So Far Today High: 52°F Low: 50°F Rain: 0.00" Rain Rate: 0.00"/h Gust: 16mph NNE
Today High: 50 A chance of rain in the morning...then rain likely in the afternoon. Much cooler. Highs around 50. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
Tonight Low: 40 Rain likely in the evening...then showers and thunderstorms likely after midnight. Lows around 40. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.

Good morning. It's 50 and raining out here by the lake on this dark, dreary morning. The high is projected to be in the mid 50's and there's more rain on tap. Got the short in the turnout wiring sorted out yesterday and made sure there weren't more waiting in the wings and ran down a bad connection in the layout sound system. Today I think I'll just sit back and listen to the rain on the tin roof. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/6/2009

Rainfall amounts are averaging less than 1/4 of an inch per hour. In addition areas of fog is lowering visibility to less than 1 mile along the coast with visibility inland ranging from 1 to 3 miles.
Today High: 55 Areas of fog early in the morning. Showers and thunderstorms in the morning...then a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 50s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

Good morning. It's 38 and clear. Hard to believe after all the rain we got yesterday. Today's high will be in the mid 60's and it will be partly cloudy. Didn't do much yesterday aside from pry the base off the Atlas passenger station as the first step of converting it to freight station. I'm at the point of trying to decide where to put the Shell Auto Center. I also have to juggle a couple of structures around to make way for the fire station as well. Decisions, decisions. Good morning. It's 50 and partly cloudy. High today will be in the low 70's and it will be partly cloudy. Just started work yesterday on a new scene with a Shell Auto Center from Model Power. I'm setting the building and details out in different patterns to see which one I really like the best but I have a very limited amount of space to work with. I'll hit on something sooner or later. There's nothing much on the schedule today. I'll probably go and clean out my mother's car sometime today but that remains to be seen. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/8/2009

Good morning. It's 53 and cloudy. The high should be in the mid 70's and it will be partly cloudy. Got a lot of work done on the Shell station yesterday but there's still more to be done. Most of the work done was on the outside. What remains has to be done on the inside and I'll have to scratchbuild some things for that. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/9/2009

I just saw the charge to MediCaid (paid) for my new shoes. $130, each ($260 total). That's $440 LESS than my last pair 3 years ago. That's kinda like the prices of low-end running shoes vs high=end dress shoes.

Good morning. It's 70 and quite cloudy out here by the lake. The high is supposed to drop to the high 60's and falling throughout the afternoon to the mid 50's. There's a small chance of rain. Spent part of yesterday rebuilding the old Midtown Consolidators building. It literally fell to pieces when it was removed from the layout to make way for the Shell station. I also put in some preliminary work on a potential location for the building. There's a deep hole and steep embankment there right now. I'm going to fill it in (landfill comes to mind for some reason) and work out the buildings location from there. That should keep me busy for a few days at least. I also have to make the assorted odds and ends for the interior of the Shell station. Most will likely be printed backgrounds as my scratchbuilding days are long behind me. That requires a certain amount of manual dexterity that I don't have anymore thanks to health reasons. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/10/2009

I went to Lowe's today and dropped $77 on some tools. A 5 pack of Dremel reinforced cut-off wheels, a 3 pack of Porter Cable jigsaw blades (6 tpi high carbon steel) and a Dremel model rotary tool to replace my old Dremel model 395 type 5 which is going on 25 years old now. I can still use it but the bearings are singing their death song and I have to run it at really high rpm's to keep power up while I'm working with it. I'll probably send it in for a rebuild. If the new one lasts only half as long I'll be happy with it.

Good morning. It's 37 and partly cloudy. The high should be in the mid 50's today and it will be partly cloudy. Didn't really get much done yesterday. I had a bit of trouble to clean up on another forum that I'm an asst admin on and that kept me tied up for several hours. The cause of the problem has yet to be resolved. I also picked up a new Dremel moto tool yesterday as my old one is on the way out after 25 years of faithful service. Today I'm looking at starting work on some of the interior backgrounds for the Shell station and do some work on a Walther's engine house. There's still the unfinished business of the hedges for the park and I need to start work on the foundation for the Midtown Consolidators building. Good morning. It's 32 and partly cloudy. The high is expected to be around 60 and it will be partly cloudy. Got the interior background pieces for the Shell station printed up yesterday and spent nearly 2 hours cutting them out. I put them together into a wall last night and installed it in the sales area of the station. Wouldn't you know the wall would warp later on. Too late to do anything about it now. I'll just have to live with it. Today I plan to do some work on mt Walther's engine house. It has two doors that are close together. That's always bugged me. I plan to remove the center section and make it one wide door, then I can lay two tracks in side by side without needing a certain length of track (which I don't have) to clear a turnout to clear the center section. By removing the center section I don't need that run of track. Still need to start work on the foundation of the Midtown Consolidators building as well. Good morning. It's 43 and partly cloudy. The high today is expected to be around 50 and it will be partly cloudy. For all my intentions to get certain things done yesterday I actually accomplished very little. I got lighting in the Shell station sorted out so I don't have that big bulb hanging down in full view. Other than that I didn't get anything accomplished on the layout. For some reason I was just very tired yesterday. Later I went down to my parents place and gathered up the trash and put it out for collection this morning since my father wouldn't be there to do it then went over to my nieces place and watched her live-in boy friend do something that could best be described as demonstrating how NOT to attempt the installation of a dog door. He's going shopping for a new front door for the trailer today as the old one now has an oversized hole in it. Before I left there I got a tape measure and showed him what he SHOULD have done to start with as in measure the dog door from side to side where the screws come through then do the same from top to bottom. I made sure he wrote the measurements down before I left. He doesn't seem to be real swift on DIY projects. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/13/2009

Good morning. It's 29 and partly cloudy out here by the lake. It's a nice warm 72 in here where I am. The high today should be in the upper 50's and it will be partly cloudy. Did some initial prep work yesterday to modify the double entry doors of the Walther's engine house. My intent is to make it into one wide entry instead of two narrow ones. This will allow me to run two tracks in from a turnout placed in close proximity to the structure. There are still two other projects that require my attention so I at least have something to keep me occupied for a while. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/14/2009

Good morning. It's 33 here and partly cloudy. High today will be around 47 and it will be partly cloudy. Yesterday seemed to be fix-it day. I had a water line outside that had taken it into it's head to start leaking a little so I had to tighten it. Stopped the leak. Rebuilt a HO grain trailer that had some issues and made some repairs on a 53' container and chassis. Next on the list was to replace the starter unit in the kitchen light fixture. It's one of those cheap 18" fluorescent fixtures that uses the little round starter that's about as big as a 1/4 ounce paint bottle. The old starter had been in there so long (10+ years) that it seemed frozen in position and wasn't coming out without a fight. I ended up taking a pair of pliers to it to get it to turn the required quarter turn to come loose. Once it was out it was a simple matter to install the new one. Now the light works as it should instead of taking 20 seconds to a minute to come on. I then took my frustrations out on a poor defenseless 1/87 AMC Pacer and reduced it to a rusted hulk with smashed windows and flat tires. That felt good. Maybe today I'll have time to get to the Walther's engine house IF something else doesn't get in the way. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/15/2009

Good morning. It's a balmy 25 and partly cloudy out here by the lake this morning with a wind chill of 17. Glad I'm sitting here in a nice toasty 70. I got very little done on the layout yesterday. I had all these plans about what would get done but as usual other things got in the way. With these low temps coming through I had to do some things to prepare for it. I was busy sealing up whatever gaps I could find. That 'Great Stuff' gap filler is great stuff. I had one window (32''w by 17''h) that refused to quit being drafty so it got filled in with the stuff. Ain't no draft there now! I also took the precaution of changing out the antifreeze in my car since it hadn't been done in a couple of years. That's all I'd need is a frozen block. As for what to do today, yesterdays plans are now today's plans, and just you watch! Old Murphy's gonna snicker! Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 1/16/2009

Good morning. It's 40 and cloudy, a darn sight warmer than it was this time yesterday. The high should be around the upper 50's and it will be partly cloudy with a chance of rain late tonight. I had so many plans for yesterday but Murphy had different ideas about that. First I had to help the nephew get ready for a trip to Houston. He and some friends were going there in two trucks with two trailers (one trailer loaded on the other) and will come back in a couple of days with the two trailers loaded and four vehicles (the two trucks, a small car and a U-Haul van). Went to the nieces place where the door (remember the dog door fiasco?) was being repaired and done right this time. My sister got her new car yesterday so had to make time for the obligatory checkout. By now it's sunset and I figure I'll finally have some time to get something done on the layout. That however was not to be. I got a call telling me that the family was going to dinner at the local Tex-Mex place that my niece likes (Las Margaritas) and my presence was required. After all, my brother in law is home from Iraq for a couple of weeks and that counts as a special occasion. So now yesterday's plans are today's plans. Good morning. It's 55 and partly cloudy. The high should be in the upper 60's and it will be partly cloudy. At least I got some layout work done yesterday. I cut one of the access holes out so it's 4 inches larger. That kept me occupied for a couple of hours. When I went under the layout to start work I had shifted around until I was in a comfortable position and had just started to mark out the area I was going to cut when one of the neighbors came knocking on the door. Have you ever wished for a handy button you could push and zap them? I had to drop everything, crawl out from under the layout and go to the door only to find that the person was looking for my next door neighbor. I simply pointed to his trailer then closed the door. That was almost as irritating as finding an encyclopedia salesman on the doorstep. I crawl back under the layout and get back into my comfortable spot and wouldn't you know it, the phone rings. I crawled back out, picked up the phone and it was a recording from a pizza place telling about their specials. Oh, this was getting irritating. So, under I go for the third time. This time I was able to get the bulk of the work done. I got all the cutting done and just had to pull the access panel out to do a little work on it. Since there wasn't anymore sawdust flying around I took my safety goggles off, popped the three barrel locks that hold the panel in place and dropped the panel down and dropped what seemed like a half a ton of sawdust right into my eyes. That was the real capper. After getting to the sink and flushing my eyes I went back under the layout and completed the work. I didn't have anything to do with the layout for the rest of the day.
