Good morning. It's 41 and clear. The high should be in the upper 60's and it will be partly cloudy. We got half an inch of rain yesterday along with a lot of lightning and thunder. I'd really prefer to get just the rain without the accompanying light and sound show. Yesterday's project was to correct the problem with the lighting (lack thereof) of the Lakeside Shipping scene. It turned out to be a simple broken wire and was quickly repaired. While I was at it I reworked the scene a little. Having two buildings at the back of the scene has always bugged me because it made the area look too crowded. So I removed the tan building and moved the red brick building over into it's place. There's much more room now and it no longer looks like one of the buildings is trying to shove a tractor trailer off the scene. The revised scene can be seen at the bottom of this post. Good morning. It's 40 and partly cloudy. The expected high will be around 70 and partly cloudy. There's a small chance of rain tonight and it may start getting ugly on turkey day. Yesterday's layout work involved shuffling a couple of structures around and doing some general maintenance. Amazing how long that can take when you're having fun at it. I'm in the process of getting ready for a doctors appointment this morning. General physical time again. Gotta go feed the vampire. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 11/26/2008

Happy Turkey Day! It's 58 and cloudy. The high is expected to be in the mid 70's and there's a chance of rain. I got the pedestrian bridge leveled yesterday. The next step now is to spray it down with Matte-Finish (outdoors of course) to get rid of the gloss. I talked with my niece in Colorado (younger sister's daughter) last night. She can't believe her son is already a year old. Next thing she knows he'll be walking down the aisle. Next I talked with her mother in Pennsylvania. She and her other half are working to get the farm house they recently bought into shape and expect to be in it by Christmas. It's near Newport on the edge of the Little Buffalo State Park. From the photos I've seen it's a very nice looking house. My mother says it looks like a typical Pennsylvania farm house. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 11/27/2008

Good morning. It's 67 and cloudy with fog. The high should be in the mid 70's and there's a chance of rain. Spent part of the day yesterday at my sisters place for Thanksgiving. We had other family members there as well as some of the neighbors and some good friends. As usual she cooked enough for a small army. Turkey, glazed ham, green beans, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes with gravy, baked beans, potato salad, deviled eggs, pies of many flavors, several cakes, tropical fruit salad with peach schnapps. There was more but I didn't look at everything. By the time I left there I could hardly walk. Only thing that was done on the layout was to spray the pedestrian bridge with Matte-Finish to kill the gloss. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 11/28/2008

Good morning. It's 46 and clear. Today's high will be around 60 and it will be partly cloudy. Nothing of note yesterday to report except that I made up my first advanced consist with two Atlas locomotives equipped with Bachmann decoders. Good morning. It's 39 and clear. The high will be in the high 50's and it will be partly cloudy. My two Atlas GP40's are pulling a 23 car train around the layout this morning and aren't having a bit of trouble, and these are weighted cars too so it's no lightweight. The train is around 16 feet long. The BNSF SD40 is pulling a 19 car train around the inner loop. I don't expect to get much done on the layout today. I have to go see my PCP to get a referral to continue seeing the foot specialist whom I have to go see this afternoon. I also have to get refills on some of my prescriptions, including my insulin. What a joy that's gonna be. I planted 15 trees last night then hit the sack early. I was worn out. I planted 3 elms, 6 conifers and 6 cedars. I'll say one thing for Bachmann, their Scene Scape trees look pretty good but they are pricey, $10 for a box of 6, 3 in the case of the elms. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/1/2008

I found out this morning what's been wrong with my car lately. It's been running rough and nothing I did improved it any. I changed the fuel filter, the air filter, spark plugs, plug wires. Nothing made any difference. This morning I had the fuel pressure checked and a computer diagnostic done. The EGR valve is bad. Parts store wants $200+ for one so I went to the local scrap yard and got one for $27. I won't have time to change it today or tomorrow but maybe Wednesday. The mechanical part of it is OK, just the electronic part is cutting up so that makes it somewhat easier.

Good morning. It's 29 and clear. Somebody done left the freezer door open! The high will be around 60 and it will be sunny. Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet nad took my car to the local mechanic to find out what's ailing it. He checked the fuel pressure. It was fine. He then did a computer diagnostic. The only thing that popped up was the EGR valve. Problem: the parts store wants $200+ for this little lump of metal. That'll be the day! I went to the local scrap yard and got a used one for $27. I'll get around to putting it on sometime this week. Today I have to go to DeRidder to get measured for my new shoes. It' took nearly 6 weeks to get the Medicaid BS out of the way. I replaced the EGR valve on my car today. It improved things a bit but it's still running a bit rough. Being that the EGR valve I put on is used it may be bad also, so I'll get another one when I can and try it. If that doesn't improve things then I'll have to go over the vacuum lines (groan) one by one to see if there are any leaks anywhere. I'm looking forward to that like I would to a root canal without anesthesia. To top things off I lost my glasses. I had placed them on the front of the car between the hood and the windshield while I was working on the car. When I finished I went for a test drive to a neighbors place 3 miles away. It wasn't until after I got back that I realized what I did. I've searched the road side between my place and my neighbors place from the car and on foot to no avail. I guess I'm gonna have to figure out a way to come up with $300 for new glasses. Not an easy trick when your total monthly income is $627. There's not gonna be any train money in the budget for 5 or 6 months I guess.

Good morning. It's 52 and partly cloudy. The high is expected to be in the low 70's and there's a chance of thunderstorms this evening. Having a bit of a problem focusing on this due to eye strain so I'm having to type it in a little a at time. No luck on finding the glasses yesterday so I'll probably be going to Wal-Mart today to find a cheap pair of reading glasses so that I can at least read the forums a bit better and maybe see to do some detail work. You don't miss something until it's gone. How could I have been so stupid! Oh well, I'll just have to push on. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/3/2008

I went to Wal-Mart this morning to the grocery shopping for the perishable good. 1 box of chicken, 8 Totino's pizzas, 5 $1 Mexican dinners, 7 of those little $1 Banquet dinners, 2 packs of sliced ham for sandwiches, 1 box of fish sticks, 2 packs of chimichangas, 2 jars of sliced olives (love my sliced olives), 1 loaf of jalapeno and cheese bread and 2 packs of cheese. Picked up a cheap pair of bifocal reading glasses while I was there. The bottom parts for reading and the top parts just regular glass. After I got home my father gave me a check for $74 to go to Wal-Mart tomorrow morning at 9:30 for an eye exam. Surprised me! Usually he's so tight with money he squeaks when he walks. My niece says she know of a place online where I can get my glasses cheap. I just need a current prescription. Worked on the car a bit today. I took the EGR valve off and removed the valves base from the engine. There was a lot of carbon fouling and one of the three holes in the base was completely plugged. I knocked it out and scraped it clean with a screw driver blade then did the same with the mounting port on the engine, being very careful not to scratch it. I reassembled it then spent the next hour inspecting vacuum lines. Not my idea of fun. I found one that had a break in it and taped it up real tight with electrical tape. I thought maybe that was it but it wasn't. It runs somewhat better but is still choppy when I step on it. When I let off it takes off like a bat out of hades. I also took a serious look at the plug wires. Seems like it's been running a bit worse since those new wires were put on a week ago. They're radio-suppression wires. I've never used those type before. On a hunch I took them off and reinstalled the old wires. They're high temp, high performance. Much better! I'm still leaning toward the catalytic converter being part of the problem. I've already drilled one hole the as big a round as my thumb (and I have a BIG thumb) ahead of the converter. Maybe I need to drill another one and see if that improves things any. I may have time for that this weekend.

Good morning. It's 47 and cloudy. High today should be around 50 and it'll be partly cloudy. We had a long, hard, heavy rain last night with quite a bit of wind. Fortunately there was little damage and no power outages. In just a bit over two hours I'll be going into town to have an eye exam done, the first step to getting my new glasses. I know from past experience that my eyes will be very sensitive for the next few days. Now get this. On the 10th I have to go to Alexandria to get my eyes checked for diabetes damage. That's gonna be another few days spent in darkness. Oh joy! I'm really looking forward to that. NOT! Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/4/2008

The eye exam went OK. My vision is a bit fuzzy right now and I'm having some difficulty reading the text on the screen. I would go to a larger text but I can't read the drop down menu. lol. The kicker of all this is I have to go to Alexandria on the 10th and have my eyes dilated again so they can look for ruptured blood vessels due to diabetes. I hope it's a very cloudy day on that 60 mile drive back home.

Now that I have my prescription I'll be shopping around for the cheapest prices on new glasses made to my specifications. Didn't get anything done on the layout yesterday, mainly because I couldn't see much. When I went to bed last night my eyes were still dilated. They look pretty much normal now though. So far this coming Wednesday (10th) is looking like mostly cloudy with rain. Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 12/5/2008
